Norton Bus Bird, a Raquette Lake native, has in his
memoirs written a vivid account of an extraordinary
Adirondack life that spanned most of the twentieth
century. Bus grew up during the heyday of the great
campsand learned at an early age to adapt to changing
times. He worked as a woodsman and guide, railroad man,
welder, carpenter and boat captain. In 1946 when Bus
tried his hand at flying a seaplane, he knew he had
found his calling, and thus began his 44-year career as
an Adirondack bush pilot. The book has many photos that
compliment his friendly writing style.
